Town Fires Worker Dating Her Boss
The Manlius Town Board fired a town worker dating the Highway Superintendent Wednesday night. The Town Board had originally given Superintendent Bill Bennett an ultimatum.
He either needed to quit himself, or fire his girlfriend of eight years who worked for him. During an executive session at Wednesday night's meeting, board members decided he could not make the decision himself.
The Town's attorney Tim Frateschi says a lot of the decision came from a physical incident between Bennett's girlfriend and his secretary. The secretary told the board she was afraid to go to work. Frateschi says the board learned the physical incident stemmed from the romantic relationship.
The board also enacted a lengthy policy on dating within the town departments.
